Baby Emma Blog

In keeping with a promise to myself, I’ve decided that the only way to keep an account of the first few weeks of Emma’s birth is to blog it with daily discourse and late night meanderings!

Baby Names

It seems that according to the Australian government web site for Birth, Deaths, and Marriages, the names we chose for the girls appear in the Top 10 of the 100 Most Popular Girls Names since 2000. If we go back as far as 1929 onwards, then the names we chose appeared in the Top 20. Mind you, we had 2 criteria when we chose baby names: 1) That they were not any of our parents or grandparents names, otherwise we’d be committing familial suicide. And 2) That they were saint names. Other than that, and how we liked the sound of them, is how we came about choosing the names. In the Top 100 (from 2000-), Jessica came 2nd, Sarah came 4th and Emma came 8th. In the Top 100 (1929-), Sarah came 3rd, Jessica came 6th and Emma came 20th.

Drew and Chris had their baby yesterday (Sunday 21st June). Born Michael Andrew Wilson (17th from 2000- and 4th from 1929- losing popularity?) 7 and a half pounds, mum and baby are doing fine. Congratulations guys! By the way, Drew. Let me start early. If your son is anything like you, then I would like to know his intentions towards my daughters…
